what's more valuable: light or dark greenstone?

i wear a dark greenstone maori mere, that was very expencive. but ive been told that light greenstone is more expencive?
ive always thought that darker was more valuable bcoz it comes from the middle of the stone?

Pounamu (Maori greenstone) is Nephrite jade while Chinese jade is called Jadeite. That's where you find the difference. Jadeite is more rare and is also lighter and people in Asia/China prefer it so the price goes up.

The value should be the same for both Nephrite and Jadeite but cultural and personal tastes and opinions sets the price slightly differently. Among the Maori it's the rich in colour Nephrite that's valued the most and among the Chinese influenced it's the pale/light Jadeite.
